Artist Profile Ron Potter
[ Ron Potter ]
Ron joined Tobwabba Art shortly after the establishment of the business in 1992. Once he joined Tobwabba, Ron participated in the design and art training programs and found that he could develop his ideas into artworks. He discovered that he prefers to work in the earthier tones associated with traditional Aboriginal art using a contemporary style. His works portray a spiritual belief or story relating to the region.
After completing his Diploma in Aboriginal Education at the Australian Catholic University he says that both his skills in art and his rediscovery of his knowledge of Aboriginal culture, have come in handy in his studies. Over the years Ron has developed into one of the major artists at Tobwabba with his design work being one of his main successes. The majority of his work is generated by commissioned pieces.
Rons''s works have been selected to hang in Newcastle University and he has major public and private works throughout Forster. He has also exhibited successfully throughout Australia, Europe and England. Currently his work is being promoted in America.
Ron believes that the success of Tobwabba has changed a lot of Aboriginal people''s attitudes towards their own culture and their place in the community.
